After using the SANWEI Target National CP-Tuned for six months, I finally have a pretty clear answer about what kind of player this rubber is for.
My conclusion is simple: this is a genuinely powerful rubber, but it is not a rubber that will do all the work for you. If you have good technique and can generate enough power, CP-Tuned can give you an impressive amount of speed, spin, and rebound.
And considering its price, I think it offers exceptional value.
My Experience After 6 Months
The first thing I noticed when I started using CP-Tuned was the sponge.
It feels very powerful and elastic, especially when you engage the sponge with a full stroke. The response is quite different from a conventional Chinese rubber that can feel relatively dead unless you put significant effort into the ball.
The Compact Sponge is designed to concentrate the energy generated by your stroke. When you really accelerate through the ball, you can feel the sponge compress and then release that energy quickly.
After six months of use, this remains the characteristic that stands out to me the most.
You Need Good Technique to Unlock Its Potential
There is one important point I would emphasize: Target National CP-Tuned requires technique.
It is not the kind of rubber where you can simply make a small movement and expect maximum speed.
To get the most out of it, you need to actively engage your body, accelerate the racket, and make good contact with the ball. When I use a full forehand stroke, the difference between a relaxed shot and a properly powered shot is very obvious.
For advanced players or players with a strong offensive technique, I actually think this is a major advantage.
The harder you work the rubber, the more it gives back.

How Does It Compare with DHS Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge?
This was probably the most interesting comparison for me.
I’ve used DHS Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge, and in my experience, CP-Tuned is actually easier to play than Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge.
That’s not to say they are identical. Hurricane 3 National has its own very distinctive characteristics, particularly for players who enjoy the traditional Chinese rubber feeling.
But CP-Tuned gives me a more elastic and responsive sensation.
For my own playing style, I find it easier to generate speed and spin without having to work quite as hard on every single ball.
And there’s another point that makes the comparison even more interesting:
CP-Tuned is around $30 cheaper.
Considering the performance I’m getting from it, that’s a pretty substantial difference.
A Rubber for Aggressive Players
The performance of CP-Tuned makes the most sense when you play aggressively.
On powerful forehand loops, the sponge provides strong energy release, while the topsheet gives you enough grip to create substantial spin.
The combination works particularly well when you are trying to take the initiative rather than simply blocking or passively returning the ball.
For players who like to step in, accelerate through the ball and put pressure on their opponent, CP-Tuned has a lot to offer.
However, I wouldn’t recommend it simply because it is powerful.
You need to have the technique to control that power.
If your stroke is still relatively short or you don’t generate much racket speed, you may not experience the full potential of the sponge.
What About the Factory Tuning?
One thing I appreciate about CP-Tuned is that you don’t have to do the tuning yourself.
The rubber is factory pre-treated through a controlled two-stage process before shipping. That means you can install it and start playing without going through the additional boosting process that some players use with traditional Chinese rubbers.
The factory tuning also explains why I think CP-Tuned feels more accessible than some traditional hard Chinese rubbers.
Of course, like any factory-tuned rubber, I would recommend using it relatively soon after receiving it rather than leaving it stored for a long time. The tuned characteristics can gradually decrease over time.
Vacuum-Sealed Packaging Is a Nice Touch
CP-Tuned also comes in a vacuum-sealed bag inside a gray cardboard envelope.
This isn’t going to change how the rubber plays, but it is important for a factory-tuned product. The sealed packaging helps minimize air exposure and reduce oxidation during storage and transportation.
For an expensive piece of equipment that you’re expecting to perform immediately after installation, I appreciate this kind of packaging.
Is It Worth the Money?
After six months, my answer is yes.
Target National CP-Tuned isn’t the easiest rubber I’ve ever used, and I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who is still developing basic stroke mechanics.
But if you already have a reasonably strong technique and enjoy aggressive offensive play, its performance is impressive.
For me, the biggest surprise is how well it compares with much more expensive high-end Chinese rubbers.
The sponge has a lot of power, the elasticity is excellent, and when you put enough force into the ball, CP-Tuned can produce a very aggressive shot.
In my experience, I actually find it easier to play than Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge, while costing about $30 less.
That’s why, after six months, I would describe the Target National CP-Tuned in one sentence:
It doesn’t give you free power—but if you have the technique to unlock it, there’s a lot of power waiting inside.
And at this price, I think that’s what makes CP-Tuned such an attractive option for serious offensive players.
