Chinese table tennis team ‘lone hero’ was born! Xiang Peng wins the title with 11-0 blasts, and is the king of the Incheon Men’s Singles 4!

On the evening of 6 April, the final match of the WTT Incheon Championships – the men’s singles final came to an end, and the only Chinese table tennis team athlete to advance to the quarter-finals of the event, Xiang Peng, blasted 4-0 and swept away South Korean star Lee Sang-soo to win the title, becoming the Chinese team’s ‘lone hero’ in the event. “He was the lone hero of the Chinese team in the event, and deserves a round of applause for his 11-0 difference in a single game! Please see below for details.

The Chinese table tennis team men’s singles suffered a blow in this tournament, with four players competing, three of whom (Xue Fei, Chen Guiyu, and Lin Gaoyuan) did not qualify for the semifinals. As a result, 2003-born Xiang Peng became the last hope to win the title, defeating the famous Asal, Zhang Yuzhen, Hugo, and Francesca consecutively to advance to the final round, and playing in a good form not often seen in the recent past.

However, Lee Sang-soo played even more bravely, knocking out Eurasian masters Junior Lebron, Linde, Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Yunru, as well as defeating the Chinese table tennis team’s main players many times in the past, and winning the most recent meeting with Xiang Peng, so the pressure on the Chinese table tennis team for the final was still huge.

Lee Sang-soo started the match with his superb fighting ability, and the threat of his quality attack was so great that he soon broke through Xiangpeng’s defence and took the lead. However, the Chinese table tennis team soon stood firm and organised a strong counter-attack, and made use of his superb forehand to overwhelm his opponent, and eventually took the lead with an 11-8 reversal.

In the second game, Xiang Peng scored 10 points in a row to break his opponent, and then scored another point to take the game 11-0, thus extending his advantage and suppressing Lee Sang-soo’s momentum completely.

In the third set, Xiang Peng continued to be strong, and Lee Sang-soo, who had been so fierce in the previous four matches, was unable to find a way to win the match. He took a 10-2 lead with as many as eight points, and then recovered quickly after missing a point to take the match 11-3, thus forcing Lee Sang-soo to the brink of a 3-0 lead, and was just one step away from victory.

In the fourth set, Xiang Peng scored 3 points in a row, and Lee then called a timeout to make adjustments, but he was still unable to change the situation, and finally Xiang Peng sealed the victory with 11-4, thus shutting down the Korean player and keeping the position of the Chinese table tennis team in the men’s singles event.
