On 9 July, ITTF announced the Week 28 2024 World Ranking List. Influenced by the invalidation of the old points in last year’s WTT Ljubljana Ballon d’Or and the injection of new points in this year’s WTT Bangkok Ballon d’Or, the positions of a number of famous players have changed, among which Liang Jingkun and Ma Long have risen to the second and the third respectively, while Fan Zhendong has dropped to the fourth, and Lin Gaoyuan, Harimoto Tomokazu, and Mitsuru Ito have also improved.
It is worth mentioning that this edition of the rankings has also decided the individual seeding seats for the Paris Olympics in advance, with Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha and Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha currently leading and topping the list in Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles, for more details, please see below.
The most important international tournament in the Chinese table tennis team last week was the WTT Bangkok Ballon d’Or in Thailand, in which only two Chinese table tennis team athletes, Chen Xingtong and Lin Gaoyuan, took part, but unfortunately they all folded, with Chen Xingtong only stopping in the last eight of the women’s singles, but even if she won the title, she couldn’t overtake Hina Sawada in front of her, and additionally she wasn’t overtaken by Miwa Changmoto behind her, so she still remains in the world’s sixth position at this point in time.
As for Lin Gaoyuan, although he lost 0-4 to Harimoto Tomokazu, he reached the men’s singles final, so he moved up in the rankings and overtook Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yunru to move back into the world’s seventh position.
