On the evening of 16 March, the men’s singles final of the WTT Chongqing Championships came to a close, with the Chinese table tennis team’s two main players dueling it out, resulting in world No. 2 Wang Chuqin winning the men’s singles title with a 4-1 victory over world No. 1 Lin Shidong and joining his old partner Sun Yingsha (4-0 win over Chen Xingtong) as kings on the same day. The same day, Sun Yingsha (4-0 win over Chen Xingtong in the women’s singles final) won the men’s singles title, along with her old partner Sun Yingsha.
Lin Shidong was born in 2005 and is currently ranked No. 1 in the world; Wang Chuchin was born in 2000 and was ranked No. 1 and is now ranked No. 2 in the world. With Ma Long and Fan Zhendong fading out, Lin Sidong and Wang Chuqin have become the core players of the Chinese table tennis team, and are regarded as the favourites to win the tournament.
In the last round of semi-final matches, Lin Sidong and Wang Chuqin were in the same situation, both 0-1 down 4-1 reversal, respectively, to beat teammate Liang Jingkun, Japan’s top Harimoto Tomokazu; and in the past three international matches, Wang Chuqin two wins and one loss advantage, but the latest loss to Lin Sidong, so the result of this final is difficult to predict.

After the start of the final, Wang Chuchin quickly launched, came up in the first set of four consecutive points, in the first three boards to control and grab the advantage, successfully limited Lin Shidong’s super backhand screw pull attack system, tactical intent is very clear, out of the resolute and decisive, and soon to 11-5 more easy to pull out the first round.
In the second set, Lin began to increase changes, including the use of his usual uncommon counter-rotation serve and other methods to disrupt the opponent’s rhythm, and achieved a surprising effect, which can be seen on the court is still relatively calm. Facing the impact of his teammates, Wang Chuchin appeared to be somewhat uncomfortable, and as a result, Lin Sidong equalised with 11-6.

In the third set, Wang Chuqin revitalised himself and scored 7 points in a row to gain a big advantage, and continued to stick to the tactic of ‘I am the main focus, attacking in the front’. However, Lin Shidong’s counter-attacks were also very swift, but Wang Chuqin still calmly held his position through line control, and finally took the 11-7 win to take the big lead once again.
Lin Shidong still couldn’t find a good way to win the fourth game, this time he lost 5 points in a row in the opening game, and then he still couldn’t mobilise his strong backhand looping advantage to break the defence, and the result was taken by Wang Chuchin with 11-5, thus he was forced into a desperate situation with the score down 1-3, and he will be defeated if he loses one more game.

In the fifth set, Lin suffered another blow, the first serve was a direct error, and the second serve was a direct penalty, thus losing two points in a row, and had to take a timeout to make adjustments. After returning to the court, Wang Chuchuqin continued his efforts and kept suppressing Lin Shidong, finally ending the game with 11-6, thus defeating his teammate 4-1 to win the men’s singles title.
