On 18 March, ITTF released the Week 12 2025 World Rankings, with some athletes gaining new points through last week’s WTT Chongqing Championships, but losing old points from another higher level event – last year’s WTT Singapore Grand Slam – to the delight of some and the dismay of others.
Lin Shidong and Sun Yingsha remain at No.1 in the singles, followed by Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu at No.2, Lin Gaoyuan back in the top 10, and Liang Jingkun overtaken by Harimoto Tomokazu and relegated to No.4. The previously long-time No.1 Mixed Doubles pairing of Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha has been replaced, with Lin Shidong/Kuaimoto Tomokazu making their debut at the top, as described in more detail below.
The week 12 world rankings were affected from three sources, the most important being, as mentioned, the injection of new points for the 2025 WTT Chongqing Championships and the invalidation of the old points for the 2024 WTT Singapore Grand Slam, in addition to the old points for the 2024 WTT 2024 Singapore Junior Ballon d’Or, which were also emptied, although the impact was minor.
As the Grand Slam level is higher than the Championships, many athletes lost more points than they gained. The latest men’s singles top 10 list is: Lin Shidong, Wang Chuqin, Harimoto Tomokazu, Liang Jingkun, Hugo, Junior Lebron, Moregardh, Francesca, Senior Lebron, Lin Gaoyuan – Wang Chuqin was only 100 points behind Lin Shidong in the last edition, but now they are 1,400 points apart; Liang Jingkun was third in the last edition, Harimoto Tomokazu was fourth, and this time they swapped places.
