The National Games Table Tennis Qualifying Tournament (Adults) is in full swing, and on the evening of 25 March Beijing time, Guangdong’s double World Champion pair Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen took to the court to face Hebei’s Zhou Yu/Zang Xiaotong, with the result that Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen beat their opponents 3-0, thus advancing to get the ticket to the main tournament in November, and Zhou Yu/Zang Xiaotong will take part in the Mixed Doubles Play-offs on 26 March to continue to make an impact on the quota for the qualifying round – details below. Lin Gaoyuan is currently the main athlete of the Chinese table tennis team’s men’s team, and Liu Shiwen was once the mainstay of the Chinese table tennis team’s Olympic Championships, both possessing great strength and outstanding skills in both singles and doubles. Although Liu Shiwen has been out of the national team’s training system, but still active in the field of play, and last year and Lin Gaoyuan together won the mixed doubles gold medal in the National Championships, is indeed old and strong.
This year’s National Games does not allow cross-unit co-operation in mixed doubles, so Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen’s advantage is even more obvious, but after all, the Chinese table tennis team is full of talents, so every match can’t let down their guard.

When the match started, Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen were pounded by their opponents in the first game, in which Zhou Yu’s attack was of a higher quality – Zhou Yu is also a former Chinese table tennis team player like Liu Shiwen, and although he hasn’t been among the main positions, he has won the Men’s Singles title of the All-Championships, and possesses a stronger strength, but Zang Xiaotong’s strength was comparatively weak, and he was ultimately defeated by Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen. But Zang Xiaotong is relatively weak, and finally Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen won the first set with 11-9.
In the second set, Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen got a lot of momentum and basically played at the level of the national team’s main players. They quickly opened the gap and took the game 11-4, thus taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Lin Gaoyuan/Liu Shiwen continued to build on their success, eventually ending the match at 11-5, thus shutting out their opponents and easily securing their ticket to the main draw: a large difference in strength between the two sides, and indeed a landslide victory.
Objectively speaking, Lin Gaoyuan and Liu Shiwen are stronger than Zhou Yu and Zang Xiaotong in singles and doubles respectively, and they are also more experienced, so the result of this battle is totally expected by many fans, so can Zhou Yu/Zang Xiaotong get a chance to advance in the play-offs?
