The first stage of the 2025 China Table Tennis Super League (CTTSL) has officially concluded. Among all the participating athletes, the 13 world champions from China and Japan drew the most attention. Of these, Sun Yingsha and Yu Ziyang did not appear in any matches, while Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun, Wang Chuqin, Kuai Man, Wang Manyu, and Miu Hirano maintained undefeated records. In contrast, Lin Shidong, Lin Gaoyuan, Xu Xin, Wang Yidi, and Chen Xingtong all experienced at least one loss—highlighting the fierce competition.
This season features 12 Chinese world champions and 1 Japanese world champion. However, they are not evenly spread among teams—many are concentrated in a few clubs:
Shandong Weiqiao·Xiangshang (Men’s Team): Wang Chuqin, Liang Jingkun, Yu Ziyang
Shanghai Real Estate Group (Men’s Team): Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin
Huangshi Base·Huaxin (Men’s Team): Lin Shidong
Shantou Mingrun: Lin Gaoyuan
Shandong Luneng (Women’s Team): Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong
Shenzhen University (Women’s Team): Sun Yingsha, Kuai Man, Miu Hirano
East China University of Science and Technology (Women’s Team): Wang Yidi

The first stage ran from June 9 to 11 in Xiong’an New Area, Hebei. By the end of the three-day event, all 15 teams had competed. Although Sun Yingsha and Yu Ziyang did not appear, their clubs—Shenzhen University (women) and Shandong Weiqiao·Xiangshang (men)—remained unbeaten in team scores, making them the only two undefeated clubs overall.

Losses Not Considered Upsets:
None of the losses are viewed as surprising:
Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Shidong lost to Fan Zhendong—a top Chinese ace.
Chen Xingtong lost to Wang Yidi, and Wang Yidi lost to Kuai Man—all close matchups between national team players.
Doubles losses by Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Shidong were also reasonable, as CTTSL pairings are often temporary and unfamiliar.
As for Xu Xin, his form decline is understandable given his age (35) and departure from the national team setup.
What’s Next?
The CTTSL will move into two more stages of round-robin play, followed by finals between the top four teams. Will any dark horses topple the world champions? Who will stay undefeated? The suspense remains—let’s look forward to the next chapter of this thrilling competition!
