ITTF Releases 44th Weekly ITTF World Ranking: Miwa Harimoto Records New High at No. 6, Zhu Yuling Moves to No. 109

On 29 October, the ITTF released its 44th weekly world ranking list, and the two athletes who topped the WTT Montpellier Championships not too long ago – Le Brun  and Satsuki Oto – moved up to 5th and 11th respectively, with Le Brun regaining his position as the current leader of the men’s ping pong players in the foreign associations, surpassing Chinese table tennis team Smash Ma Long and others.
Harimoto Tomokazu, who took silver in the men’s singles at the Championships, remains at No. 8, while his younger sister, women’s singles runner-up Harimoto Tomokazu, is at No. 6, surpassing Chinese table tennis team star Chen Xingtong to reach a new career high, and former Chinese table tennis team star Zhu Yuling, who won the Cagliari feeder tournament at the WTT, soars 68 places to No. 109, more details below.

The changes in the world rankings come mainly from the WTT Montpellier Championships, where the champion athlete gets 1,000 bonus points, and the runner-up also gets 700 points, so it has a certain impact on the top ten players in the world rankings, but the one who ranked in front of Harimoto Tomokazu in the last edition was Leblanc Jr. and the other one got more points, so Harimoto Tomokazu remained in the same position and stayed at No. 8.
As for Le Brun Jr, he had already been ranked 5th in the world, and now that he has won the championship, he has moved back up to that position, which has caused Ma Long and Hugo to drop one place; among the two third-place winners of the men’s singles, Lin Shidong continues to be ranked 2nd in the world behind Wang Chuqin, and the big black horse Duda has moved up 5 places and is now ranked 17th.

WTT Montpellier Championships Women’s Singles topper Satsuki Oto continues to climb five places, having overtaken Miyu Hirano to 11th in the world, just one step from the top ten, while runner-up Miwa Harimoto has also progressed to 6th, giving the Japanese women two players ahead of China’s World Champion mainstay Chen Xingtong (and the other being Kina Hayata).
And with a third-place finish in the women’s singles at the Championships, Chinese table tennis team player Qian Tianyi moved up to No. 14, but is still a long way from the No. 5 in the world she was at her peak; Chinese Taipei veteran Zheng Yijing, who, like Qian Tianyi, stopped in the semifinals, moved up to No. 9, and South Korean No. 1 Shin Yubin continues to slip to No. 10, risking being replaced by Satsuki Oto.

The latest men’s singles world top 10 list is: Wang Chuqin, Lin Sidong, Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun, Junior Lebron, Ma Long, Hugo, Harimoto Tomokazu, Lin Gaoyuan and Francesca. Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yunru, who only returned to No.10 last term, fell back to No.12, while Sweden’s Olympic runner-up Moregard advanced to No.11.
The recent women’s singles world top ten list is: Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng, Hina Hayata, Zhang Ben Meiwa, Chen Xingtong, Ito Mima, Zheng Yijing, Shin Yubin. Chen Meng, who hasn’t played recently with a high defence card, slipped one place, while Wang Yidi returned to the world’s top three.

As for the WTT Cagliari feeder tournament, it is a lower level, so Zhu Yuling, the former Chinese table tennis team mainstay who won the title and is now China’s Macau player, only collected 125 points (not as much as the top eight of the championship). Having not competed for the previous three years, and having done poorly in her first WTT Macau Championships since her comeback, Zhu Yuling’s latest ranking is still not in the top 100, ranking 109th in the women’s singles after an improvement of 68 places.
According to the arrangement, this week’s tournament with greater impact on the world ranking is the WTT Muscat Regular Season, with a level higher than the feeder tournaments and lower than the Championships; the WTT Frankfurt Championships will be held next week, with Wang Chuqin and Wang Manyu about to make their comebacks to the tournament field, Sun Yingsha having withdrawn, and Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng continuing to be absent, so Chinese table tennis team players are looking forward to a good result.
