Latest WTT world ranking announced! Brazil’s Hugo overtakes Lin Gaoyuan, Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha continue to lead the way

On April 2, FIBA announced the world ranking list for the 14th week of 2024, affected by the invalidation of some old points and the injection of new points into the WTT Incheon Championships, many people’s positions changed, but the list of top ten athletes remained unchanged, and only Brazilian Hugo (Incheon Men’s Singles runner-up) rose back up to strongly surpass Lin Gaoyuan and reach No. 7 of the Men’s Singles.

The Chinese table tennis team of Wang Chuqin, Sun Yingsha, Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha, Fan Zhendong/Wang Chuqin and South Korea’s Tian Zhixi/Shin Yubin are still reigning in the five No. 1 positions, see below for more details.

The most important international tournament in Week 13 is naturally the WTT Incheon Championships in South Korea, which will not affect the point changes of each doubles pairing as the tournament only features men’s and women’s singles events.

According to the rules of the tournament, the two Chinese table tennis teams Liang Jingkun and Sun Yingsha, who won the Incheon Championships, were both awarded 1,000 points, but the former was not enough to overtake Fan Zhendong, and therefore remained third in the men’s singles, while Sun Yingsha, who was originally the number one in the women’s singles, now topped the rankings once again, and naturally, she is “unbeatable”, and continues to be the top of the list for a number of years.

WTT Incheon Championships men’s singles runner-up Brazilian Hugo made a breakthrough, got 700 points, coincidentally, originally ranked in front of his main Chinese table tennis team Lin Gaoyuan did not get the qualification of this tournament, no chance to supplement the new points, so Hugo has successfully “overtaken”, became the sixth player in the world ranking.

As for the women’s singles runner-up in Incheon Wang Manyu was originally ranked second, the final and lost to the first Sun Yingsha, so continue to rank second; and the three third-place players Fan Zhendong, Ma Long, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng also remain in the original position.

Almost synchronized with the WTT Incheon Championships is the WTT Otosek feeder tournament in Slovenia, but this is a bottom of the WTT rankings, and the winning Korean athletes Cho Dae-sung and Park Chia-hyun can only earn 125 points, but we don’t see this part of the points accounted for in the latest rankings for now, and it may be counted in the next period.

The final order of the top 10 men’s singles rankings for Week 14 is: Wang Chuqin, Fan Zhendong, Liang Jingkun, Ma Long, Felix Lebrun, Lin Yunru, Hugo, Lin Gaoyuan, Zhang Benzhiwa and Qiu Dang, with youngster Lin Shidong dropping down to 14th place.

As for the latest women’s singles world top 10 players are Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi, Chen Meng, Chen Xingtong, Hina Hayata, Shin Yubin, Itō Mima, Szokos, Diaz.

In doubles, as mentioned before, Chinese table tennis team Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha in mixed doubles and Fan Zhendong/Wang Chuqin in men’s doubles continue to top the list, and Korean women’s doubles team Tian Zhixi/Shin Yubin continue to maintain the world’s No. 1 position, and the next rankings will be affected by the WTT feeder tournaments, but the World Cup, the World Championships in April, only has singles events, and thus won’t change everyone’s Doubles points: sit back and wait for the new big battle to kick off.
