Men’s world champion withdraws from tournament! Boll abandons lower-level tournaments, perhaps in full preparation for World Series in Busan

The table tennis WTT Manchester feeder tournament has begun in the UK, but Boll, the 42-year-old German world champion veteran who had originally signed up for the tournament, has suddenly disappeared from the list of athletes for unknown reasons.

It wasn’t that long ago that Boll made his mark, winning back-to-back titles at the WTT Doha Regular Season, so many fans were looking forward to seeing him again, but sadly, it wasn’t to be. And considering the Busan World Series is just around the corner, it’s likely that Boll is preparing for this important event and that’s why he gave up the lower level feeder tournaments.

The veteran is ready to go, is the Chinese table tennis team ready to take it?

Timo Boll

Boll, born in 1981, is an athlete of the same generation as Ma Lin and Wang Hao, who beat Wang Liqin and Kong Linghui to win the World Cup men’s singles championship in 2002, and then created the “miracle” of winning the World Cup men’s singles gold medals in 2005 by winning Wang Liqin, Ma Lin and Wang Hao, which can be said to have shaken the ping world at that time, and in the past twenty years, he has beaten fifteen world champions of the Chinese team, and has also beaten fifteen world champions of the Chinese team. Defeated the Chinese team fifteen world champions, indeed powerful.

Now 2024 just arrived, Boll in the WTT Doha regular season won China, Japan and South Korea masters to the top, showing the super strength, many people can not help but shout: once the king of the ping world is back again!

According to the German team announced the list of Busan World Tournament, Boll again on the list, will play in the men’s team program: considering his heroic performance in Doha, Liu Guoliang and the Chinese table tennis team coaching staff will inevitably be listed as the object of key attention again.

And before the Busan World Tournament started, Boll also signed up for the WTT Manchester feeder tournament – the lowest level of the WTT, and it is widely believed that he should be trying to save up some more points to improve his world ranking.

However, as mentioned, when the WTT Manchester feeder tournament started, Boll was not seen in action and has apparently withdrawn. There were only three world champions registered for the event (the other two being Ni Xiaolian and Liang Xiayin), with Boll being the one in the best form recently, so his absence was a big disappointment to the fans.

However, on February 16, the Busan World Series will kick off in South Korea, when Boll will once again fight with his teammates, so let’s wait and see what kind of flowers and fruits this “evergreen tree” can bloom!
