TWO FACE ALC Asymmetrical Structure Table Tennis Blade (9)

6 Months with the SANWEI Two Face-ALC: One Blade, Two Completely Different Personalities

I’ve been using the SANWEI Two Face-ALC for the past 6 months, and honestly, it’s one of the most unusual blades I’ve ever played with.

  • Defense Face Upgrade: Premium black walnut replaces ebony on the backhand side. Its tighter grain and balanced density give you enhanced feel, making it easier to absorb spin and place blocks exactly where you want.

  • Offense Face Innovation: The forehand side is now built with Arylate-Carbon (ALC) instead of heavy carbon. This change unlocks superior “second-speed” for faster rebounds, crisper drives, and a more powerful, consistent loop arc.

  • Optimized Core Ratio: We’ve shifted the core thickness from a 50:50 split to a 60:40 defense-to-offense ratio. The thicker defensive core soaks up incoming power, giving you stable, controlled returns, then smoothly transfers energy to the thinner offensive side for lethal counterattacks.

+

Not unusual in a gimmicky way—but in the sense that it genuinely changes how you think about blade design.

Most blades try to balance offense and defense within the same structure. The Two Face-ALC takes a completely different approach: it separates them.

And after enough time with it, you start to realize how much potential that idea actually has.

The Asymmetrical Structure Feels Surprisingly Natural

The core concept behind the blade is its Asymmetrical Structure.

One side is built for offense.
The other is built for defense.

At first, I expected it to feel strange or inconsistent, but in actual play, the transition between the two sides becomes surprisingly intuitive after a few sessions.

And once you adapt, the blade starts offering things that conventional blades simply can’t.

The Offensive Side Feels Like a Classic ALC Blade

The forehand side uses Arylate-Carbon (ALC) instead of traditional heavy carbon, and this side immediately feels familiar to anyone who has used offensive ALC blades before.

What stood out to me:

  • Strong rebound
  • Crisp contact
  • Excellent “second-speed” when accelerating

When looping or counterattacking, the blade has real power behind it.

The arc feels stable and direct, especially during:

  • Fast topspin rallies
  • Counter-loops
  • Finishing attacks

Honestly, the offensive side feels very close to a classic modern ALC offensive blade.

The Defensive Side Completely Changes the Rhythm

Then you flip to the defensive side—and the feeling changes completely.

The upgraded black walnut defensive face has a much softer and more absorbent response.

This is where the blade becomes really interesting.

Against strong attacks:

  • The ball slows down noticeably
  • Incoming spin becomes easier to control
  • Blocks land shorter and lower

It has that distinct “energy absorption” feeling that defensive players love.

From my own experience, even against heavy loops, the defensive side remains calm and stable. It almost feels like the blade removes the opponent’s power before returning the ball.

The 60:40 Core Ratio Actually Matters

One thing I thought would mostly be marketing—but turned out to be noticeable—is the 60:40 defense-to-offense core ratio.

The thicker defensive side genuinely feels more stable and dampened, while the thinner offensive side feels more reactive and explosive.

Instead of feeling like two disconnected halves, the blade feels intentionally engineered around two different jobs:

  • absorb and control
  • then counter and finish

That transition becomes very effective during real matches.

A Blade Designed for Tactical Players

This isn’t a blade that rewards mindless aggression.

The Two Face-ALC shines when you:

  • change rhythm
  • vary pace
  • force opponents into uncomfortable exchanges

You can:

  • absorb pressure on one side
  • then suddenly accelerate with the other

That contrast is what makes it difficult for opponents to adapt.

A Truly Rare Design

What impressed me most after 6 months is how unique this blade actually is.

There are plenty of offensive blades.
There are plenty of defensive blades.

But a genuinely well-executed asymmetrical blade is extremely rare.

In fact, outside of fully custom-made blades, it’s difficult to find anything really comparable on the market.

And the important part is this:
it doesn’t feel experimental anymore after extended use—it feels practical.

Who It’s For

After 6 months, I’d say the Two Face-ALC is best suited for:

  • Two-way players
  • Combination bat users
  • Tactical players who vary tempo and placement
  • Players who combine blocking with sudden offense

It’s probably not ideal for:

  • Pure power loopers
  • Players who want identical feeling on both sides

Final Thoughts

The SANWEI Two Face-ALC feels less like a conventional blade and more like a specialized tool designed around modern tactical play.

What stood out most to me:

  • The offensive side has genuine ALC-level power and speed
  • The defensive side absorbs energy exceptionally well
  • The asymmetrical structure creates a playing experience that’s genuinely different from standard blades

And most importantly, it doesn’t feel like a gimmick.

After enough time with it, the concept starts making real sense in match play. You begin using each side intentionally rather than simply treating the blade as “one piece.”

For players who enjoy tactical variation, disruption, and sudden counterattacks, the Two Face-ALC offers something that very few blades on the market currently do.
