On the evening of 23 February, the men’s singles final of the 2025 Table Tennis Asia Cup came to a close, with Chinese table tennis team player Wang Chuqin defeating teammate Liang Jingkun 4-0 to win the tournament for the first time: the Asian Cup tournament was thus completed, with the Chinese table tennis team taking home six medals, with men’s singles players Wang Chuqin, Liang Jingkun, and Lin Shidong winning the championships, first, second, and third place, respectively, and women’s singles players Wang Manyu, Sun Yingsha, and Kuai Man taking the gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively. Wang Man Yu, Sun Ying Sha, Kuai Man won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, Chen Xing Tong and Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yunru in fourth place – see below for details of the men’s singles final.
Wang Chuqin was born in 2000 and is currently ranked second in the world, while Liang Jingkun was born in 1996 and is currently ranked third in the world. Both are mainstays of the Chinese table tennis team, and although Wang Chuchin is currently in a more advanced position in the team, his past record against Liang Jingkun in international matches is a slight underdog with four wins and five losses, the most recent of which was the Men’s Singles Semi-Final of the WTT Singapore Grand Slam at the beginning of February, where Wang Chuchin lost 3-4 and the deciding set by two points, so it is difficult to predict whether the two men will win or lose in a rematch now.
Wang had previously played in the Asia Cup in 2022 (the last edition), but lost to South Korea’s Lim Jong-Hoon in the last eight, and was now looking to win gold; while Liang Jingkun, although he had never played in the tournament before, had plenty of experience in international matches, and had turned back world number one Lim Si-Dong in the last semi-final, and might not be able to beat world number two Wang in the final.

The first set started with a very high quality looping confrontation between the two athletes, as they knew each other well, and Wang Chuchin was the first to take the lead, while Liang Jingkun played tenaciously despite being behind, but in the end it was Wang who played more consistently and came out on top with an 11-7 win.
In the second set, Wang Chuchin once again started ahead of his teammate, and suppressed Liang Jingkun in terms of speed – compared to Lin Sidong in the semi-final, Wang Chuchin was more forward and rarely retreated from the stage, so the quality of his attacks decayed less, putting more pressure on Liang Jingkun, and he soon scored as many as 8 set points to win the match, and eventually won another set with ease, 11-2. In the third set, Liang Jingkun tried to increase his attacking power.

In the third set, Liang Jingkun tried to increase the threat of attacking after the serve, but Wang Chuqin was prepared for it, and was very quick to make up for it near the table, trying not to give Liang Jingkun the space he needed to make a full-body attack, but there was a certain amount of error in the middle section of the set, and then he was overtaken by the other team when he was ahead. However, he also fought a very tenacious battle, and was able to save the game point when he was behind, and then the game point was reversed, and the two of them continued to tangle up the scores, with Wang Chuqin taking the match 16-14, and then the match point. In the end, Wang Chuqin took the match 16-14, just one step away from victory.
In the fourth set, Liang Jingkun came up with a direct attack on serve to score a point, followed quickly by Wang Chuchin’s attack on serve to level the score, and then the two of them chased each other, Liang Jingkun paused to make adjustments when he was trailing, and in the middle of the set, Wang Chuchin gradually opened up the gap, and eventually ended the battle with 11-5, thus defeating Liang Jingkun by a large margin of 4-0 to win his first ever Asia Cup Men’s Singles Championships.
