The Japanese National Championships begin today! Harimoto Tomokazu seeks to defend title, Harimoto Miwa challenges Hayata Hina

Beijing time on 21 January, Japan Table Tennis National Championships (全日本卓球选手权大会) will officially kick off, a number of Chinese table tennis team rivals have been registered, but most of them give up the second stage of the doubles competition, only to participate in the first stage of the singles event, and then directly to Singapore to participate in the WTT Grand Slam tournament.

In the last singles event, Harimoto Tomokazu saved 8 match points to beat Hayasuke Togami and win the men’s singles crown for the second time, while Hayata Hina sealed the title for the third time – this year, Harimoto Tomokazu and Hayata Hina are naturally aiming to defend their titles, and Hayata Hina will have to compete in the singles events of the Junior and Regular divisions at the same time to continue the challenge. Hayata Hina’s position as the No.1 sister of the Japanese team, see below for more details.

Founded in 1936, the All Japan Jukkyo Player’s Rights Tournament has a history of eighty-nine years, making it the oldest major tournament in Japan and in Asia as a whole, and one of the most valued events in the careers of its own athletes. After the end of World War II, with the rapid rise of Japanese table tennis, the gold content of the Japanese National Championships has also been greatly increased, once reached the world’s top level.

According to the arrangement, this year’s Japanese National Championships will start with singles competition from 21 to 26 January, followed by doubles from 30 January to 2 February. As the mainstay of the Japanese national team, who originally had little interest in doubles, coincided with the start of the WTT Singapore Grand Slam on 30 January, they have given up playing in the second stage.

Through the official registration form can be seen, to participate in the doubles programme of the current Japanese National Championships in the combination of the only new finals champion Sato Hitomi / Hashimoto Fanai Xiang can be called the top pair, and ranked second only to their women’s doubles, the second seed has been the unheard of Kato Yasumi / Kojima Ye Ai, which many fans can not help but feel: don’t kill a chicken with a bull’s-eye sword?

As for the singles competition in the junior group, there are two athletes who are significantly stronger than the others, that is, Matsushima Teruko, Zhangmoto Miwa, but although both of them won the championship last year, but Zhangmoto Miwa was 3-0 easily swept by Rin Omote, Matsushima Teruko was 3-2 narrowly defeated Yoshiyama Kazuyoshi, and almost collapsed, this year, it is difficult to predict how the battle will be.

As for the singles competition in the regular division, the field is still very tight, with Harimoto Tomokazu, Hayasuke Togami, Daido Shinozuka, Teruko Matsushima, Mayumi Yoshimura, Yukiya Utada, Hayata Hina, Miwa Harimoto, Satsuki Odo, Mimoto Ito mima, Miyu Hirano, Miyu Kihara, Mayuzu Nagasaki, Hitomi Sato, and Hashimoto Fanuka all participating, as well as Takahi Tange, who has already withdrawn from the national team.

Although the tournament kicked off on 21 January, but due to the number of athletes participating in too many, and most of the low-level players, so Harimoto Tomokazu, Hayata Hina, Hayata Hina, Harimoto Tomokazu and other top-ranked players can enjoy the ‘privilege’ of the rotation, the first day will not be debut to participate in the battle.

According to the announcement released by the Japan Bing Association can be seen, won this year’s singles championship athletes will directly lock the 2025 team Asian Championships and 2026 team World Championships tickets, as for the Los Angeles Olympic Games because it is 2028 to start, so this year’s results of the full championships will not affect the Olympic selection.

It is worth mentioning that, just before the start of this year’s Japanese National Championships, the Japanese national team announced the list of new head coaches on 19 January, giving birth to the first ever Chinese head coach, Harimoto Tomokazu Nakazawa (formerly known as Wang Rui), so whether the next two Chinese players, Harimoto Tomokazu and Miwa Harimoto, will be able to win the championships at the Championships? The suspense is still there, let’s wait and see what happens!
