Saudi Smash: Sun Yingsha beats Wang Yidi 4-1 to reach final, fights Chen Meng for women’s singles title

On May 10, the table tennis WTT Smash Saudi Arabia once again featured a duel between the Chinese table tennis team’s main players. Two world champions, Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi, met again in the quarterfinals of the women’s singles event for the ticket to the final round, and Sun Yingsha won by a big margin, 4-1, and thus progressed to the final round.

With Chen Meng having already swept Japan’s Kina Hayata 4-0 in the other semifinal, the Chinese table tennis team has successfully wrapped up the women’s singles title, and Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng are set to face off again in the final, which is worth watching! Please see below for more details.

Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi are one of the five main players of the Chinese table tennis team, with strong strength, and have won and lost in the past, but in general Sun Yingsha has won more than she has lost, and her advantage is relatively greater.

Especially in the recent year, Sun Yingsha’s performance is significantly better than Wang Yidi, won the World Series, Asian Games, World Cup women’s singles title, this Smash is even more powerful, not only 4-0 sweep teammate Qian Tianyi, and a single set of 11-0 difference, and Wang Yidi was almost overturned by Misaki Ito, now want to beat Sun Yingsha is indeed difficult.

The first set began with Sun Yingsha’s momentum, coming up with an 8-1 difference, and then continued to maintain the advantage, and finally won 11-4 easily, showing the same good form as against Qian Tianyi in the quarterfinals of the tournament, and almost in every aspect of the suppression of Wang Yidi, who deserves to be the current world’s highest-ranked women’s ping pong player.

In the second set, Sun Yingsha soon made continuous efforts to suppress her teammate, and although Wang Yidi was desperately seeking for a breakthrough, she was not spared from being taken down 11-7 by Sun Yingsha, and the gap between the two sides was further widened, which was not a good situation for Wang Yidi.

In the third set, Wang Yidi was once again caught in a passive, once behind, but still stubborn to fight back, soon after with the hard looping attack successfully tied, although in the latter half of the set, although again behind, by Sun Yingsha to get set point, but she still dragged the game to 10 draws later and ultimately to realize the reversal of the eventual 15-13 overturned back to the city, to avoid the situation of being swept by the zero.

In the fourth set, Sun refused to be conservative, and Wang Yidi was tough to the end. Both of them played very high-quality pulling and attacking, and this time Sun did not miss the opportunity to take the game 11-9, thus taking a big 3-1 lead and putting her teammate in a desperate situation.

In the fifth set, Wang Yidi took the opening lead, but was soon leveled by Sun Yingsha, and the two continued to battle on the court, Sun Yingsha then took a 6-5 lead, Wang Yidi had to call a timeout to make adjustments, after all, if she continued to lose, she would be eliminated from the tournament, and if she didn’t use the right to take a timeout at this point, she would not have the chance to do so.

Back to the court, the two again to the last 2 points to win or lose, Sun Yingsha constantly behind to tie each other, followed by changes through the serve to get the match point, and ultimately to 11-9 to lock the victory, a large score of 4-1 to get promoted.

As mentioned earlier, the women’s singles duel will start between Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng, and according to the Chinese table tennis team’s latest standings, the two have already locked the Paris Olympics singles, group qualification (Sun Yingsha in addition to the mixed doubles), and Wang Manyu, Wang Yidi, Chen Xingyong, and so on can only impact the group “third person” seat.

Prior to this, Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng in the Olympic Games, the World Series, the World Cup and other major competitions in the women’s singles duel for a number of times, each other, so this Smash women’s singles championship will go to who? Let’s wait for the summit match to come!
