Smash: Chen Meng goes crazy! 4-2 reversal of Sun Yingsha to win the title, winning 4 consecutive victories over China and Japan’s main players!

On the evening of 11 May, the table tennis WTT Smash ushered in the final of the women’s singles, the Chinese table tennis team’s two Olympic champions Sun Yingsha, Chen Meng again met at the top, the result of the recent win rate of Sun Yingsha’s obvious superiority lost in 6 games, Chen Meng 4-2 courage to win the title, even won the four major Chinese and Japanese to the top of the stage of the return of the king.

It is worth mentioning that, after this match, the Chinese table tennis team women’s singles programme’s Olympic selection is officially over, Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng are already in the top two of the team’s points list, and according to the regulations of the Chinese Table Tennis Association (CTA), they will get the singles qualification for the Paris Olympics, and we expect that they will be able to meet again in the final of the “big test” in a short time! Please see below for more details.

Sun Yingsha and Chen Meng are both core players of the Chinese table tennis team and were finalists in the women’s singles at the last Tokyo Olympics. In addition, they have also played in the finals of the World Championships, World Cups and other major tournaments, and the WTT Smash is no exception, which makes them top players in the Chinese table tennis world.

In the first few rounds of the competition, Sun Yingsha beat Wang Yidi, Qian Tianyi and Tian Zhixi to advance, while Chen Meng has been on an external high all the way through the tournament, beating Japan’s three Parisian Olympic mainstays, Mayu Hirano, Miwa Harimoto and Kina Hayata on her own – both of them in great form, and although Sun Yingsha has been winning against Chen Meng lately, no one dares to guarantee that the result won’t be reversed this time.

Chen Meng refused to be conservative, and was even more active than Sun in taking the lead, but she made more mistakes in the second half of the set, and was ineffective in forcing the ball, while Sun gradually threatened to hit higher quality and more stable looping shots, and then took the lead 11-6.

In the second set, Chen Meng still fought very fiercely, and received the ball as much as possible from the stage to start twisting, pulling, turning and picking to form a topspin hold, and then decisively and young people to play hold, and soon took the lead, and then got as many as 6 set points, and finally 11-5 to successfully equalise, the two are back to the same starting line.

In the third set, Sun Yingsha still played a bit conservatively, and as a result, she was constantly broken by her elder sister, but she didn’t let herself be upset, and soon levelled up the score with her composure and calmness. However, Chen Meng soon regained the initiative on the court, and won the game with 11-8, and she was even able to pull back successfully when she encountered the net in the middle and long platforms, which is a very good condition indeed, and Sun Yingsha was facing a severe test.

In the fourth set, Sun Yingsha’s awareness of active power improved, but it was Chen Meng who played more proactively, but then the lead was chased down and a timeout was called at 7-5 to make adjustments. After returning to the court, Sun Yingsha completely levelled the score, but still failed to resist Chen Meng’s strong attack late, and the result was another 11-9 win by the opponent, thus being forced into a desperate situation with a big score of 1-3 down.

Sun Yingsha had no way back in the fifth game, this time up to suppress Chen Meng, to take the lead, although Chen Meng is still tenacious counterattack, but still Sun Yingsha 11-6 victory, but in the sixth game Chen Meng once again broke through the defence of Sun Yingsha, and finally ended the battle with 11-8, and thus defeated her teammate by a large score of 4-2, to win the women’s singles title.

As mentioned before, Chen Meng won this tournament in a row of Japanese rivals, 3-0 victory over Hirano Miwu, 4-1 victory over Zhang Ben Meiwa, 4-0 victory over Hayata Kina, the final against the world’s No. 1, the recent successive suppression of their own teammates Sun Yingsha also played steadily, in the case of backwardness to achieve a big turnaround, indeed played the peak of the state of the game, deserves to be affirmed.

Finally, I would like to congratulate both Chinese table tennis team players who did not lose their foreign matches, and I expect them to shine at the Paris Olympics as well!
