The latest ITTF world rankings have been announced! Lin Shidong and Sun Yingsha are ranked first in singles, while Dongman and Shuangman are ranked first in both doubles events.

On 27 May, the ITTF announced the world rankings for the 22nd week of 2025, with Lin Shizhong and Sun Yingsha (Doha World Table Tennis Championships women’s singles champion) continuing to rank first in the world in singles, followed closely by Wang Chuqin (Doha World Table Tennis Championships men’s singles champion) and Wang Manyu.

In doubles, Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha, who recently claimed the mixed doubles title in Doha, have risen to world number two, still behind their teammates Lin Shizhong and Kuai Man, who are ranked first. The new women’s doubles champions Wang Manyu and Kuai Man reached the top for the first time, which is gratifying. The Japanese pair Shunsuke Toga and Daito Shinozuka, who also just won the gold medal at the World Table Tennis Championships, reached second place in the world, behind the Lebrun brothers of France. For more details, please see below.

This issue’s world rankings were mainly influenced by three factors. The first was the injection of new points from the recently concluded World Table Tennis Championships in Doha. The second was the expiration of old points from last year’s WTT Far East Regular Season and Rio Regular Season.

In the men’s singles, although Wang Chuqin won the title in Doha and won his first singles world championship in his career, he still trails his teammate Lin Shidong, who reached the quarter-finals of the World Table Tennis Championships, in points and failed to return to the top spot in the world rankings. The rest of the Chinese table tennis team players remain unchanged, with Liang Jingkun, Lin Gaoyuan, Xue Fei still ranked 5th, 16th and 37th in the world.

There was one noteworthy change in the Chinese table tennis team’s men’s singles rankings, which was that the rising star Xiang Peng, who was previously ranked 9th, made further progress and is now ranked 8th in the world. Unfortunately, he lost in the team selection and did not participate in any events at the World Table Tennis Championships in Doha.

This week’s top ten men’s singles players in the world are: Lin Shidong, Wang Chuqin, Hugo, Harimoto Tomokazu, Liang Jingkun, Moregard, Le Brun, Xiang Peng, Le Brun, and Dako. Among them, Hugo, the runner-up of the Doha World Table Tennis Championships, remained unchanged, while Moregard, who came in third, rose one place, and the Le Brun brothers both fell one place.

In the women’s singles, Sun Yingsha, who successfully defended her World Table Tennis Championships title, continues to rank first, followed closely by the other three main players of the Chinese table tennis team, Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong and Wang Yidi. The Chinese team continues to occupy the top four places. As for the young player Shi Shunyao, who participated in the World Table Tennis Championships for the first time and stopped at the last 16 in the women’s singles, she rose three places and is currently in 20th place.

The latest top ten women’s singles players in the world are: Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, Chen Xingtong, Wang Yidi, Kuai Man, Zhang Benmei, Ito Mima, Hayata Hina, Ohtani Satsuki, and Shin Yu-bin. The only change is that the new World Table Tennis Championships bronze medallist Ito Mima rose two places, surpassing her teammates Hayata Hina and Ohtani Satsuki. Her performance certainly deserves her rise in the rankings.

In the mixed doubles, the three-time World Table Tennis Championships champions Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha have not participated in any competitions in the last six months, so even with the addition of 2,000 points, they were unable to return to the top spot and remain behind Lin Shidong and Kuai Man in second place.

In women’s doubles, the Chinese table tennis team combination of Wang Manyu and Kuai Man won the World Table Tennis Championships in Doha, reaching the world number one position for the first time, but the same did not happen to the new World Table Tennis Championships men’s doubles champions Shunsuke Toga and Daito Shinozuka. As mentioned earlier, they have currently risen to second in the world and have not reached the top of the rankings, However, they are only 66 points behind the top-ranked Lebrun brothers.

According to the schedule, the Chinese table tennis team will most likely take a break in June after the World Table Tennis Championships, and then in July, they will face a relatively important international competition, the WTT US Grand Slam. Although this is a commercial event, the number of points awarded is on par with the World Championships and the Olympics, and the final results may have a significant impact on the table tennis rankings. Let’s wait and see what happens!
